My Reading Interview with John Carlazzo Starchild For Florida Kiss tribute band Kiss Alive The Tribute
Hello everyone welcome to another episode of WeWillBlogYou am your host Hannah and joining me today is John Carlazzo who plays Starchild in Florida Kiss tribute band called Kiss Alive The Tribute.
Question 1: John how are you today?
John Carlazzo: I couldn’t be better how are you.
Hannah: Am doing good today.
Question 2: John could you tell us alittle bit about yourself like where you grow up just like a friendly intro?
John Carlazzo: I was born in NYC, grew up in NJ and moved to Florida when I was 16 and been here ever since.
Question 3:When did you started playing guitar?
John Carlazzo: I started when I was kinda late at 17.
Question 4: When did you get into music & who were your music influencers?
John Carlazzo: I’ve always loved music ever since I can remember. My dad listened to classical music alot and my mom often has Sinatra or Tom Jones playing in the house. I always loved the music of Disney movies. They’re consistently great songs. I had older aunts & uncles that turned me on to the Beatles which, thinking back now, is the first band I fell in love with. The first 2 rock bands I into were Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.
Question 5: How did you discover Kiss and have you ever seen them live in concert?
John Carlazzo: I first heard a Kiss song in 1975 when a classmate brought in his copy of Alive! I saw the cover and the inside photos as he spun it and was “oh..ok….this is catchy, raw and fun” I”got it immediately. I saw them a few months later in 1976.
Question 6: Who was your favorite member of Kiss and why?
John Carlazzo: Initially it was ACE coz I thought how cool it’d be to be a lead guitar player, but, like the Beatles, the band was made up of 4 individuals with his own persona. I loved that about the band….4 strong personalities competing for attention.
Question 7: John can you tells us your journey of how you became the Starchild in Kiss Alive?
John Carlazzo: I answered a Craigslist ad that said a non make up, non costume musical tribute was looking for a Paul Stanley. Funny thing is, had that ad wanted someone to put on the make up and spandex, I never would’ve responded. I auditioned, got the gig and we started rehearsing and jamming. We played some gigs down in south Florida and a short time, people kept saying we should do the full show. We discussed it and started adding all the elements for a make up, costume show with as many bells and whistles we could afford.
Question 8: Why the name Kiss Alive and who created and started the band?
John Carlazzo: The original line up was started by the original bass player and was called Parasite. Once we decided to put on the make up I suggested we changed the name to Kiss Alive The Tribute and the guys agreed. It’s been almost 15 years and I am the only one left from the original lineup.
Question 9: Do you guys ever travel around the world or a one area tribute band and would you like to travel different place in the future?
John Carlazzo: We mostly play in Florida and the southest USA, but we’ve traveled as far as New Mexico and Pennsylvania. We were booked for a great run of shows up in Michigan in the summer of 2021, but I got Covid 3 days before. We’ll definitely get there. We’d love to travel more, but putting a band on the road is expensive. I’m working with a few agents and promotors now so we’ll see if we can do a few mini tours here and there. There was even some interest in having us go over to England last year. We all have passports are ready to take the circus on the road :-).
