My Reading Interview With Joseph Russo The Lead Singer From Almost Queen
Intro: Hi everyone welcome to anther episode of WeWillBlogYou am your host Hannah & joining me today is the lead singer to Queen tribute band Almost Queen the one and only Joseph Russo! Joe thanks for coming back on the show its been a long time since you were last one here. I met Joe 11 years ago at a Almost Queen show in Tioga Downs. We really hit off & been super best friends for 11 years . Joe considers me as his non blood sister cuz he never had a sister & I consider Joe as my non blood brother as well. Let’s get started this interview!
Question 1: Joe how are u today?
Joseph Russo: HI Hannah I’m doing great today thank you!
Question 2: Joe can you tell us alittle bit about yourself like alittle friendly intro for our audience who doesn’t know you?
Joseph Russo: I live in NJ and also work here selling wine and spirits. I like to read and take care of my garden.
Question 3: Joe when did you get into music and who are your music influencers?
Joseph Russo: I started piano lessons when I was 7 and Clarinet lessons when I was 8. I also played in the school band until I was 12. Queen was one of the first musical acts that I took notice of. Like millions of other people, I heard Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio(AM radio in the back seat of my parents’ Chevy)in 1975 and it changed my world. I won tickets to see them in February 1977-my first Rock Concert. I also was heavily into The Beatles and also played in a Beatle band for a while.
Question 4: Now Joe your parents were famous musicians could you tell us about them and also do you have any siblings and are they musical talented as well?
Joseph Russo: My mom was the lead singer of the Angels in the early 60s and had a big hit single-“Til” My dad also sang and played many instruments. My parents performed together in the NY/NJ area for at least 30 years with their own band. My twin Brother is the lead singer in a U2 tribute band. His band “Unforgettable Fire” has been together for over 25 years.
Question 5: When did you started being a performer?
Joseph Russo: I guess my first performances were at 4 or 5 when my parents would bring me onstage to sing. “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” was my go-to song. I also liked to sing “Joy To The World” by Three Dog Night. Later I would come up and play the keyboard with them.
Question 6: Joe when did you get started playing the piano & keyboard?
Joseph Russo: Started taking lessons when I was 7, but only for about a year. I couldn’t sit still for long back then lol.
Question 7: Joe before you were in Almost Queen you were in famous musicals can you tell us about your musical life?
Joseph Russo: I toured Europe for a few years with “Hair” and did several productions in the states including “Titanic-The Musical”, “Evita”, and “Jesus Christ Superstar”
Question 8: Joe can you tell us your journey on how you joined Almost Queen?
Joseph Russo: A mutual friend brought the original 4 of us together.We rehearsed every week for a good 6 months before taking our first gig-a 35 minute set at BB Kings in NYC. Within two years we became the lineup that you see today.
Question 9: Did you ever think you would become the lead singer for a tribute band especially a Queen tribute band?
Joseph Russo: I always wanted to but never thought it would happen. It really takes the right bunch of people to work together to make it successful. A little luck and a lot of hard work also helps!
Question 10: Is there anything new with Almost Queen you want to share?
Joseph Russo: We have just released our first original single! It’s called “Almost” and is available online to purchase or stream. We are very happy with the finished product excited to share it!
